PARENTS & GUARDIANS

Kind Counselling for your child

If you’re a parent or guardian concerned about your child, welcome!

My name’s Sarah and helping young people realise their potential and regain hope that things will get better is my passion.

I also have over 20 years’ experience in supporting young people with their emotional well-being. This means I have an in-depth understanding of current issues and the difficulties your child is facing.

Covid, technology, social media, world-wide politics, changing family dynamics.

All that plus the usual physical and emotional challenges of growing up means being a teen, or the parent of a teen today, can be stressful.

Looking after your child’s mental well-being has therefore never been so important.

Counselling teaches your child the vital skills to do just this. Ones that show them how to safely manage difficult times, experiences and emotions.

My experience as a school counsellor has given me valuable insight into issues young people are facing today. These include:

Anxiety. Stress. Worries. Low mood. Low self-esteem. Identity. Emotional regulation. Relationship issues. LGBTQ. Self-harm. Suicidal thoughts. Family issues. Social anxiety. Feelings…

About your child’s feelings

Feelings can be difficult, especially when you’re young. Your children might struggle to manage theirs – or even understand what they are!

Some feelings, such as anger, also cover up many different emotions.

What counselling does is help your child look within to find the hidden emotions. It then helps them to understand and manage these.

Because of this, counselling can be life changing. It empowers, boosts self-esteem and gives you child the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them. The valuable skills learnt in counselling are then available for your child to use for the rest of their lives.

At Kind Counselling

I provide your child with safe, confidential*, one-on-one counselling in a comfortable, non-clinical environment.

What this means

  • If you’re concerned about your child’s emotional wellbeing, it’s brilliant to have you on board.
  • At Kind Counselling, your child’s counselling time is a time just for them. A space where they can develop a trusting, therapeutic relationship and learn to safely open up.
  • Parents and guardians are therefore asked to remain outside the sessions. However, depending on your child’s unique situation, you might occasionally be invited in.
  • This is because sometimes it’s helpful for you to also learn the strategies we have implemented. The purpose in this, is so you can help your child use these in their everyday life.

*Unless your child is at risk of harm.

How many counselling sessions will my child need?

At Kind Counselling all sessions begin with an initial assessment. From here, I can make an informed decision about how many sessions your child is likely to require.

However, please bear in mind that counselling is not always linear. How many sessions is therefore a topic that will therefore be regularly reviewed and talked through with yourselves.
